CHAPTER I
Begin with the story, not the software
Before a single spread is opened, the album already exists as a shape in your head. A wedding has an arc: the quiet morning, the rituals, the vows, the celebration, the last dance. Cull your photographs against that arc, not against how sharp they are. A slightly soft frame of a grandmother’s hand on the bride’s head will outlive a flawless but empty portrait every time.
Work in two passes. The first pass is generous — keep anything that carries feeling or moves the day forward. The second is ruthless — for every moment, choose the one frame that says it best. A studio that delivers eighty near-identical portraits looks unsure of itself. Forty confident choices look like art.
CHAPTER II
The quiet rules of a good spread
A full-bleed hero spread sets the tone — let one image own the page.
Once the story is set, layout is mostly discipline. A few principles carry almost every spread:
Give hero images the whole page
The strongest frame of a wedding should never fight for space. Let it run edge to edge across a spread with nothing else on it. Scarcity is what makes it feel important.
Protect the gutter
The centre fold of a printed album swallows anything placed across it. Keep faces, hands, and joined couples clear of the middle. A kiss cut in half by the binding is the most common — and most avoidable — mistake in Indian album design.
Let the page breathe
White space is not wasted space. A single portrait floating in a clean spread reads as luxury; nine photos crammed onto one page reads as a contact sheet. When in doubt, remove one image, not add another.

CHAPTER III
Consistency is the mark of a professional
Nothing separates an amateur album from a studio album faster than colour. If one spread is warm and golden and the next is cool and blue, the eye notices even when the mind can’t name why. Grade the entire wedding to one consistent look before you begin designing — a shared white balance, a signature tone, a mood that runs from the first page to the last.
The same applies to skin. Indian weddings span every shade under harsh mandap lighting and soft evening bulbs; a good studio keeps skin tones true and even across the book. Decide on your palette early and let every spread answer to it.
CHAPTER IV
Design for print, never for the screen
An album lives on paper, and paper has rules a monitor hides. Three of them matter most:
Resolution: 300 DPI, always
What looks crisp on a laptop can print soft and pixelated. Design every sheet at 300 DPI at its true printed size so fine detail — embroidery, jewellery, henna — survives the press.
Colour: think in CMYK
Screens glow in RGB; presses print in CMYK, a smaller range. Rich reds and deep golds — the heart of an Indian wedding — are exactly the colours that shift most. Work in a print-safe, lab-tested colour space so what your client approves on screen is what arrives in their hands.
Bleed: give the printer room
Extend every full-bleed image a few millimetres past the trim edge. Without bleed, a hairline of white paper can appear along the cut — the tell-tale sign of a rushed job.
CHAPTER V
Work smarter with layered templates
Here is the honest truth of a busy season: no studio hand-builds every album from a blank canvas. The fastest professionals lean on well-made, fully layered templates — a proven grid of spreads where the design thinking is already done, so their time goes into the couple, not the alignment.
